Wig Wisdom Vol. I- Tame the FRIZZZ!

There are so many questions regarding if frizzy extensions means the extensions are bad quality. The answer to this is yes and no. High quality hair is prone to frizz if not properly cared for. They are just as susceptible to frizz when exposed to humidity, and not safely protected when exposed to heat products.

Frizziness is caused when hair is dry and lacks moisture. Naturally, hair needs moisture. When hair is cut from the donors, the supply of natural oils and nutrients that keep the hair looking healthy from the scalp are cut off.

So when your hair extensions are dry, the cuticle gets rough, and when the weather is humid, it’s the perfect recipe for frizzy hair. The outer layer of the hair takes in the moisture from the air, which causes the hair extensions to swell and then become frizzy.

FRIZZY HAIR TIPS: HOW TO TAME FRIZZY HAIR

1. Opt for Sulfate free shampoo & shampoo rich in Glycerin

Glycerin helps combat frizz by penetrating the hair and hydrating it from the inside out. It is also absorbs that extra moisture in the air, creating a protective coating and keeping moisture trapped in your extensions. Sulfate is the active ingredient in shampoo because it creates a lather. However, it strips the natural oils from the hair and can make the hair dry, leading to frizz. Sulfate-free shampoos help to retain the hair’s natural oil levels.

2. Always follow with a Conditioner

Don't pay attention to the price of the conditioner, but the ingredients. Ensure you use conditioner every time you shampoo your hair, this keeps the cuticle hydrated so moisture can penetrate deep into each strand. This seals the cuticles and helps prevent the entrance of excess moisture from the environment.

3. Let your extensions air dry

The heat of a blow dryer can cause heat damage to your hair extensions. However, using a blow dryer when your hair is 90% air dried minimizes the risk of any heat damage. Maintaining a low heat setting on your dryer and holding your hair dryer inches away can help prevent heat damage.

4. Use Nourishing hair oils

Hair oils can be a way to combat frizz by smoothing out the hair while simultaneously adding gloss and shine. The oils penetrate deep into the hair cuticle to add moisture to dry ends and revitalize the health and vibrancy of the hair extensions. Â
